About Us

Category: About the CACR

We are a Federally and Provincially registered, not for profit charity, dedicated to promoting the arts and artisans in Richmond BC. We have been in existence for over 41 years.

Since 1970, we have constantly advocated for the betterment of the arts, including helping to raise funds to build both the current Richmond Cultural centre and the Gateway Theatre, gave out thousands of dollars in grants and support to all art disciplines, held numerous classes, workshops and events.

More recently, with government cuts to the arts and culture sector in gaming grants, we have found it difficult to survive and were forced to close our Artisans' Galleria. Ourselves, like so many other non profit groups, are just barely getting by, but we are re-structuring and thinking "outside of the box".

With the generosity of the public, members, the City of Richmond, the Province of British Columbia and other grants, we will still able to create exciting and interesting events and exhibitions for 2012. While we no longer have a home base from which to operate, we are still going forward with our exciting events planned or in the planning stages for 2012. Building on our very successful participation in the 2011 Culture Days we have already conculed our first event, the First Annual Sculpture Challenge for Richmond kids ages 10 - 15 with was a huge success.

Already confirmed is "A Midsummer Art's Dream" 2D art Exhibition to be held in July at Lansdowne Centre (further information and entry forms available on this website) and a long awaited pottery exhibition in May.

Thanks to Mike Clarke of Pioneer Networks hard work and dedication, this newest  incarnation of our website promises to be the most up to date, user friendly one we have every had. The members pages will be full of what THEY want you to know and we will also publish information  concerning other arts events by other groups on this website. We hope it will be your one stop for all your arts information.

Please bear with us as the construction continues and so do we. It is our intention to make this website the best source for arts and culture, all in one stop on the web.
