I was born in Zaandam, Holland and at age 3 immigrated to Richmond BC with my family in 1952. We lived about 100 metres from the Fraser River for the first ten years of my life, where I learned to love the river and its inhabitants – man-made and natural.
My interest in photography began at the age of 8 with an old folding camera. I spent my days taking photos of the river and surrounding areas from every angle. When I was 10 my older brother and I created a black & white darkroom and experimented for two years.
At 19 I bought my first SLR camera and worked with it for the next ten years, shooting mainly 35 mm slide film. In my early 30’s I built another darkroom where I learned to home process black and white, colour negatives and slide film and the printing process. (TBC)
